Painful urination related to cyst??

I've had abdominal pain on my left side for a couple weeks and just yesterday my doctor found an ovarian cyst. Now today I'm having a short, sharp pain when I start to pee. Its really really low in the center of my abdomen. Could this be related to the cyst? If not could I have some sort of infection? Thanks :(

Did you have an ultrasound done to check the cyst size and type? If not, ask your doctor about it. I'm not sure what's causing your pain. It could be the cyst. It's hard to say though.

Check back with your doctor if you're really concerned.

I hope you get better soon!

Take care,

Kristin

The cyst was small, about the size of a marble. This morning I was doubled over in pain and called my doctor. He said that perhaps there was a larger cyst that he didn't see when doing the ultrasound, but that there was nothing that could be done about it. He said that since I'm not going to the bathroom every 15 minutes I don't have a UTI. Is there anything I can do to ease the pain? Motrin? It isn't excruciating all the time, but sometimes it is and I'm embarrassed to go to school.

You can try taking some Motrin. Otherwise, I think you'll just have to wait it out. The pain can be almost unbearable when a cyst bursts. If that had happened to you, I think the pain would be constant. I'm not sure though since I've never had one burst. Maybe another lady here has some experience.

I'm sorry!

YES IT CAN BE RELATED TO YOUR CYST!

Well I had exactly what you speak of only it was my right side. I would experience pain when my bladder was full because it was putting pressure on my cyst. When I would empty my bladder all my insides would shift around and this hurt so bad that I nearly fell of the toilet. That is when I knew something was wrong and I wound up in the emergency room. It was a 6cm cyst that had ruptured. I imagine that yours has ruptured. The fluid that was released by mine made my abdomen kind of burn a little. They gave me Vicodin for the pain, and it did nothing. I think advil/aleve and hot baths or heating pads were the only thing for me. Peeing was so horrible. I feel your pain, literally.

Even small cysts can rupture and the aftermath is very painful. Unless you respond well to prescription pain killers (I hate them) then I would stay home, relax, and realize that the healing for these things can be a couple of weeks.

hang in there!

Thank you all so much for the information. If it wasn't ruptured before I think it must be now because yesterday morning about 30 min after I woke up the pain came on really suddenly. It was excruciating for about 20 seconds. After that I've been fine. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way!
