I have been getting extremely itchy and irritated on and around my vagina around when my period is going to start. Its not a yeast infection though. I do know that much. But now I have a painful buring sensation when I pee and it hurts when I wipe. It feels almost like there are small cuts on the lips. Does anybody know anyway to get rid of the cuts and irritation. I have tried topical antibiotics and anti-itch cream but nothing is helping much. I have also tried eating yogurt to help. But nothing is working. Thanks.

Hi there!

How do you know it's not yeast? I have gotten the very same thing. Including the feeling like I have cuts. It sure is uncomfortable! In my case, it is yeast. I have a history of it. And, the itching and irritation usually goes away after my period. Does yours go away?

Have you been checked out by a doctor? If not, then try to make an appointment so it coincides with your symptoms.

Thanks for your response. I have had yeast infections in the past and I have that nasty discharge. Though this may be a mild yeast infection. But this is different. Its just itchy and pain. I really don't want to go to the doc unless it is necessary. I am taking amoxicillin for an infection on one of my cuticles, but this started before I was taking the meds. That's the reason I have been eating so much yogurt. To try to counteract any reaction I might have to the medication. I have had this kind of thing before but I just wanted to see if anyone else out there had this kind of problem and what they did to help the pain.

Thanks

Wow! I have this exact same problem, and I was actually just about to post something about it but I guess I don't have to...I'm glad to know that other people experience this and there's nothing wrong with me. I get really itchy and burny about a week before my period starts...it's only been happening for the past few months which I don't really understand and I've been wondering what the hell is wrong down there!

So if this is yeast, what else should I be doing besides eating yogurt to help this problem?

You might want to try either an Acidophilus or garlic supplement. Acidophilus is the same stuff in yogurt. It's available in a higher dosage in pills. It will help maintain the balance of good bacteria. Garlic, on the other hand, might help kill some of the yeast. That's what I've read anyways. It's worked for me. You can take both, but don't take them at the same time. They will counteract each other. A note on garlic, check with your doctor before taking it. It's a natural blood thinner and some medication shouldn't be taken with it.

Try taking either about a week before your period and until it's over.

Both supplements are widely available.

I hope it helps!

Thanks so much...I'm definitely going to try one of those and hope that it helps. Just one more quick question, do you know if they would have any sort of effect on the birth control pill?

Not to my knowledge. But, I wouldn't take them at the same time. You should be fine!

Good luck to you!
