revealing personal info at the gyno...

I was involved in a discussion on another board about when (what situations) one should reveal his/her virginity, and I was wondering about the ramifications of mentioning it (or not mentioning it) to one's gyno. What do you all think? Even if you are no longer a virgin, would you have (did you tell) told your gyno if/when you were a virgin? Why/why not?

The last time I went to a new gyno, I did not tell her my secret because the way I see it, it is just too much exposure - afterall, she has already gotten to see my reproductive organs inside and out and that's enough! And the few times I did see a male gyno there was NO WAY I would have told them!

I just don't see the point in divulging that kind of info, I figure if they know that you have never been pregnant and you use abstinance as your form of bc, that's all they need to know. Anything more is just too much invasion of privacy for someone who is already invading your private areas. Also, when I was first taken to the gyno by my mom, I was 15 years old (she wanted them to teach me about the "birds and bees"), my doc (a man) was shocked when I told him I was a virgin! He seemed horrified that I was not on bc, even though I had no reason to be. So now I don't want to risk a negative reaction and have to try to find another doc, especially since I am now 33 and it seems even weirder to not be sexually active.

p.s. I know docs have to keep info confidential, that's not an issue here

The only reason to tell your doctor if you're sexually active or not is purely for health reasons. The only questions I've gotten are, Are you sexually active and, How many partners have you had within the last year. I've never had one ask if I were a virgin or when/how I lost it. That would be inappropriate.

A doctor should never judge you based on your sexually activity. I'm sorry the other doctor gave you a bad reaction. He should not have done that. I, personally, have never experienced that. I've also been going since a young age. Most doctors aren't like that. They really only have your health in mind when they ask about your history.

Take care,

Kristin
