Do Ovarian Cysts Cause Bleeding?
| Sat, 09-06-2003 - 6:19pm |
I stopped taking the pill after a year and I had a pain in my left side a couple months later. I went to my doctor and I found out last week that I may have an ovarian cyst. I started to take the pill again 2 weeks ago and I started bleeding today. Does anyone know if this is breakthrough bleeding or if it may be because of a possible cyst? Can a cyst bleed as if it bursts? (The pain in my side stopped almost 2 1/2 weeks ago.) Thank you.

A cyst may cause break through bleeding. It may also be your body adjusting to the pill. It's hard to say. If you haven't had any pain recently, then I wouldn't be so quick to blame it on the cyst. If it had burst, you'd know it! I hear it's extremely painful and many women end up in the ER because of it. You wouldn't notice any additional fluid after it bursts. The fluid from the cyst is absorbed by your body.
I hope that helps. Check in with your doctor about the bleeding if you're really concerned. A phone call never hurts!
Take care,
Kristin
I think that a lot of things can happen with cysts or the female reproductive organs in general that are not similar for others. So I am not sure that my experience would mirror yours in anyway. It could be possible. it just wasn't for me.
