Hi everyone. I'm 19 yrs old and for the last 3 months I've gotten very sick to my stomach when my period starts. This has never happened before. Also for those 3 months my period has only lasted about a day and a half, when it usually lasts at least 3 days. I'm not sexually active so I know I'm not pregnant but I have no idea what could be causing this. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much :)

It's really hard to say what is causing this. It seems to be some sort of hormonal imbalance and that can be caused by many things.

Do you have a doctor you can go to? If not, can you talk with your mom or another adult that can take you to a doctor? It sounds like something that should be addressed. It's probably nothing serious. But, when things change all of a sudden, I'm inclined to have it looked at.

Take care and I hope you feel better soon!

Kristin

I was like that at around the same age and I asked my doctor about it and he said to take tums. It got worse during my first pg because of the hormopnes but wasn't so bad after that. If you are really concerned, go talk to a doctor, if you don't have one, find a friend you trust and ask her where.

Hi..Did your Dr tell you what caused it? And why did he/she suggest tums? One thing I forgot to mention is that I recently lost a little weight (about 11 lbs or so, I'm not under weight but I'm not supposed to lose any more for my height) Could that be a reason? Thanks sooo much to both of you for the advice, I really appreciate it!

Any kind of change you do to your body, including losing weight, can cause different things. I think my dr just thought it was hormonal, he never did any tests, and the tums give you extra calcium. It started after I had lost 30# in 2 weeks. How fast did you lose your 11#? It usually affected me with how much I did. If I walked too fast, I would get sour tummy. I would work at a factory and ate the tums like candy. That's about all I got for you. HTH

I didn't lose my weight very fast..maybe over a month or so, so it wasnt drastic. But that's all I could come up with about why this happens. Anyway, thanks a lot for the help! :)
