Here's the deal.... Every morning I usually have a bowel movement - I'm pretty regular. What I CAN'T STAND is the "itchy/gritty" I get back there afterward. I start to feel something that can only be described as a "wet sand" feeling, and I go to wipe myself again, only to find "residue." It even continues if I take a shower immediately after going to the bathroom (which is often since I do both first thing in the morning). I'm sure to clean myself well after I go, but this problem has been happening ever since I had my son 2 years ago. Before that, this had never happened. I'm SO sorry if I have grossed any of you out, but my next OBGYN appointment isn't until January, and the problem isn't so annyoing that it warrants a special visit. It's just annoying enough for me to see if any of you have heard anything about it! PLEASE HELP! I can't stand this feeling anymore! THANKS!!!

For anyone that doesn't know a kegel. Try stopping the flow of pee. Take it as far as you can and hold for a few. Repeat.
It will strengthen all muscles down there to reduce the risk of incontinence (not being able to hold it in).

First of all, I'd suggest that maybe you should make a "special" doctor's appointment if your next one is not until January. Even though your symptoms don't sound serious, it may be something that needs checking in to, just to be sure. And it would definitely give you peace of mind and also an answer and treatment.
I don't want to start speculating about what your particular problem could be and mislead you, but sometimes anal fissures can cause similar symptoms. Another thing that can cause this is hemorrhoids, external as well as internal ones. If the symptoms started after you gave birth makes it even more likely that you might have hemorrhoids. And you can't see internal ones. Have you ever noticed any blood with bowel movements? Bear in mind that hemorrhoids can cause a mucousy discharge, which in turn can cause irritation such as itching, burning, and even that "gritty" sensation you described.
Again, you'd feel better if you'd see your doc! Literally:) Also, you don't necessarily have to see your gyn for this. Your GP would be okay. Of course some ladies are just more comfortable seeing their gyn's for problems like this, though.
Good luck!
