Colposcopy while ttc???

My last exam came up slightly abnormal and they want me to have a colposcopy done. I have done this before and am familiar with the procedure. First of all, this will be my second abnormal pap in two years. Can I expect to have this happen all of the time now? I seem to be prone to yeast infections as well and am wondering if that could be causing the abnormal paps. My appointment's tuesday.

My second question, and the one that I am obsessing over, I am trying to conceive. Every month it seems something prevents me from ttc. Whether it's missing the fertile window due to circumstances or I get an infection. And my last cycle ended up 50 days long before my period returned so I didn't know whether i was coming or going.

My cycle seems pretty normal. I am on cycle day 13 and hope to ovulate soon. What is going to happen as a result of the Colpo? Will the poking and pricking of my cervix prevent me from conceiving? Do I have to abstain for any particular amount of time before the procedure? I am upset that this may be yet another month that circumstances beyond my control prevent conception.

Thanks for the input.

Hi Sharon.

These are questions you should really be asking your doctor. He/She will be able to give you the best answer. I'm sorry. I wish I could help more!

Good luck in your TTC journey!

Hi there.. First off I agree talking w/your Dr about this is what you need.. but here's my 2 cents. You could be having trouble trying to conceive if you are having abnormal paps.. It might be smart to wait to try to conceive til you get your paps regulated. WIll they always be that way?? No.. it could just be from a bacterial or yeast infection. Chronic yeast can errode your cervix (so can childbirth). I ended up having a Cone Biopsy which is one of the more extreme procedures.. because I had all my children by then. I know you don't want to wait because when you are trying to conceive you want it now.. but I highly suggest you get the abnormal pap taken control of first. I do believe you have to obstain from sex before the colp at least a few days before.. but I'm not 100% sure.. Please call your Dr. to discuss these situations.

Good Luck!!

Gin :)
