I am soo confused. I'm so frustrated because i'm so confused. Why do you go to a gyno when your not pregnant? I understand the whole cancer thing, but other than those two, why do you need to go? Do you have to go when sexually active. Please inform me asap. thnanx

First off there are OB's (Obstetricians) and GYN (Gynecologists).. the OB works with pregnant women and conception etc.. the GYN can work with the plumbing of women. Some Drs are both.. thats why you will see them listed as OBGYNs. Some people to the GYN to get their annual pap smear and mammograms. If you are at all sexually active you should go to a GYN to make sure that you aren't harboring any kind of infection, and just to make sure "everything is okay" down there with annual Pap smears etc. Another reason would be to get on birth control, to seek help for PMS or any other hormone related female trouble you might be having. Some family Drs do yearly pap smears in their physicals, personally I prefer the GYN. I went on BCP at 17 w/my OBGYN and he saw me thru all my diseases, infections, births of my babies, and now my PMS. I trust his judgement over my family Dr!

Hope this helps,

Ginny :)
