Panty allergy or something else?

I am so tired of having such sensitive skin! At least I hope that is what I can attribute my current problem to. I usually have some irritation after my period, which is worse when I use only pads. However this time it's different-it's been a week since my period and didn't use pads at all this time. I have quite a bit of swelling to the right of the vaginal opening--It's the labia minor on the right but not the left. It's sore and just unpleasant feeling-and feels kind of like a hard ball but it's not all that round... (if that makes sense) I did wear a different type of underwear for a few days (satiny kind) and wonder if maybe that part of my body is extra sensitive to the material? Or could this indicate some other sort of problem? Why would it be on one side and not the other? Weird! I would like to go the the doctor but it's difficult to get an appointment and I can't get off of work this week, but I do have an appt scheduled for later this month (routine check-up). Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Any advice on how to ease the irritation and make it go away?

Thanks!

This sounds soooo familar! I deal with it almost every month. I asked the gyno what i could use that could not have this happen... She unfortunalety didn't know.... However, some times i get an infection down there, and last month i exprienced something i NEVER want to ever again!!! After and during my period, i had got little cuts around my labia and clitoris, that itched and burned. The point is, if you have any infection down there, the labia and/or skin around there and become swollen. Just like anything, its an indicator that something is not right. If its a bad infection you may even have pains in the glands down there which are located by your hip bones (hair in between, sorry i couldn't explain that better). If you notice any cuts down there from a skin alergy/reaction to the pads, sometimes i'll put some antibacterial on it, and others i'll just wash frequently to keep it clean. I've also heard that they can be commonly associated with yeast infections which also can be common coming off of a period especially from pads. Sorry if some of this didn't affect you, just thought i'd throw in some personal experience with the "down there sensitivity". I've heard that maybe GNC and places like that may have an all natural pad that may help... Not sure though.

Good luck to you and hope something in this post helped you.

You really should make the time to get to the doctor.
