Perhaps this is a silly question, but...
If I am looking to go on the pill, but have never been to a gynecologist before, what do I say when I call them to make an appointment? Do I say (on the phone) that I am calling in regards to birth control? Or do I just make an appointment to see them? Do I even need an exam to get pills?
As an aside; I also heard about new pills they had that prevented woman from getting their periods, or they could reduce their periods to only four or so a year. This sounds like a great idea to me! Does anyone know anything about these?
Thanks ahead for answers!

You will need to have a pelvic exam and pap smear to get a prescription for birth control. You just need to call a gynecologist and tell them you would like to make an appointment for a gynecological exam. While at the appointment, tell the doctor you would like to be put on birth control.
I haven't heard of a pill that "prevents" the period, but I have taken the shot, which I would NOT reccomend. You are so much better off on the pill.
Yes, there is a pill called Seasonale that gives you only 4 periods a year.
