I could really use your help. I saw a doctor a few weeks ago who stated very quickly that due to fibroids and a uterus the size of an 18-week pregnancy, I needed an abdominal hysterectomy soon.
The doc I saw for a second opinion said that someone my size COULD have a vaginal hysterectomy and that is what I wanted to opt for.
Doctor #1 says, "No - that's impossible - you must have an abdominal". He also tells me the recovery time is about 2 weeks and that I should be able to go back to my desk job after that time.
Ok, I think Dr. #1 is full of it. Everyone I've talked with says the recovery time is at LEAST 6-8 weeks for an abdominal. Also, after doing my research online (isn't the net wonderful?)... there are things they can do to shrink a uterus the size of mine so that it CAN be removed vaginally.
Guys, I need to hear from some of you that have been through this. Please let me know recovery times if you have them, input on uterus size vs type of hysterectomy to have performed, etc. I REALLY appreciate any light you can shed on this.
Thanks!
Joy
