Unusual periods - premenopause??

I just wanted to post something here to see if someone might be experiencing the same problems that I am. Almost 2 years ago, I had surgery to remove my left ovary. Prior to the surgery, my periods were starting to become erratic (I've always been very regular) and I assumed I was "going through the change". (I am 47 and have not had children) In the past year, I've only had 2 periods, both very short and light, and hot flashes and night sweats. I pretty much figured that my periods were a thing of the past.

However, in the past 25 days, I've had 2 periods, 10 days apart, and extremely heavy (having to change an over-nighter pad every 2 hrs) What I would like to find out (without having to see my doctor sooner than scheduled) is if anyone here has experienced something like this. Is this normal for menopause? Any input is welcome. Thank you.

Savanna - abnormal bleeding patterns are common in the years before menopause but I would be a little concerned about the amount of bleeding you are having, especially since you seemed to be on the downward trent. How soon is your next doctor's appointment? I wouldn't wait more than a month before at least calling to check this out. You could have something very simple like a polyp (Do you have bleeding after intercourse?) but it could also be something more important. Not to mention the risk of anemia with that type of blood loss.

Check it out and let us know what you find out - okay?
