question about broken hymen

I'm 18, and have never had sex before, but when I was around 10 years old I crashed my bike and landed directly on the crossbar. I'm pretty sure I broke my hymen, because it hurt like holy hell and there was blood spots in my underwear. I'm wondering, is my hymen still broken, or has it healed by now? If it hasn't healed, does this mean that I won't bleed the first time I have sex, or that it won't be as uncomfortable? Thanks to anyone who responds.

I could be way off here but I'm not sure how easy it would be to break your hymen by a bike.. I was thinking you needed more of a penetration to break it, but I could be way off. But lets say you did break it.. they usually don't heal themselves (in a sealed back kind of way)... but you could still bleed when you have sexual intercourse because it probably wasn't totally broken, plus the first time you have sex it can be common to bleed. If you use tampons that you probably already broke it too. I'm kind of just guessing here.. so don't take what I say to fact. I know that I attempted to have sex once.. and I think I partially broke mine, then when I was giving birth the Dr had found that mine was looped! I to this day can't tell and would never have known had he not shown me...he was going to fix it for me while I was having my twins.. but I think we got sidetracked and it was the last thing I cared about fixing because its had not difference in my life. anyway... I hope I kind of helped in a wishy washy answer way *L*

I don't believe it is possible to break your hymen by landing against the bar of your bike. That just hurts because you hit your pelvic bone down there and it is a very sensitive area. I've been whacked down their when I fell on the monkey bars as a kid.

You need to have something go inside your vagina to break your hymen. Vigorous exercise and tampon use sometimes break your hymen.

Most young women have already had their hymen's broken by the first time they have sex through tampon use or vigorous exercise. Many

The reason I thought that I broke my hymen was because first of all, the blood, and second, I was reading some of the question/answer columns on ivillage by the gynecologist expert Kelly Shanahan, M.D, and in one column she wrote:

"...a woman can have her hymen torn before she has sex, by trauma such as falling onto an object"

She also wrote, in a different column:

"The hymen can be torn before first sex by tampon use, gynecological exams, a straddle injury (falling on the crossbar of a bike, for example), or other events."

My main question is just whether the hymen heals after it has been broken. After all, the bike accident was 8 years ago. And, of course, it would be nice if the first time I have sex it doesn't hurt as much because my hymen is already broken ;).

From what I've read and been told, the hymen doesn't heal back up once it's actually broken.

My hymen was still intact when I had sex for the first time. There was a little blood but it was not at all painful. I think it's a myth that it has to hurt the first time. Make sure you are relaxed and fully aroused and that should help matters some.

Now that I think about it.. my first experience was with a guy that was HUGE.. its no wonder I had problems!! I didn't know he was that huge either until I had sex years later with someone else.. and it was like.. OHHHHHHHHHHH now I get it *L*

Just because your hymen broke doesn't mean that it won't hurt the first time you have sex. I'm not an expert on this, but I don't think that your hymen breaking is what hurts, I think that it's just something going up there for the first time and the fact that you're so tight.
