Need Help!!!!!

I just got my results from my gynecologist yesterday and she said that I have Streptococcus species Group B. I have no idea what this is. She gave a presciption for a cream. I've been looking up info on this bacteria but I'm still so confused. I've read that this bacteria rarely occurs by itself and that there usually is an underlying problem. But if there was something else wrong she would've told me right? And I'm not sure if I'm pregnant and I won't know until Saturday. And every article that I've read about this talks about pregnancy and the side effects. Plus, I just broke up with my boyfriend Sunday and if I'm pregnant that'll just cause more problems. And I'm not sure if I could've given this to him somehow...I need help. If anyone knows anything about this bacteria please help me.

From what I know, just because you have strep B doesn't necessarily mean you're pregnant. I have read that it can be transmitted sexually, you may want to give your doctor a call to double check on this, however.

Well, I did some more research and it doesn't seem as though GBS can be sexually transmitted, but I just told my ex-boyfriend to go get tested anyways (kinda just to make him pay) I know how much testing hurts them...That's kinda mean but believe me, he deserves it. So I hope that this treatment will help and I hope I'm not pregnant because GBS cause major illness' in infants...But if anyone else knows anything about GBS please let me know. Thanks

My understanding is that GBS is only dangerous to infants when it's not known that the mother is a carrier. They can give you antibiotics when you enter labor that help protect the baby. The other option is to have a C-section because the baby is only exposed in the birth canal.

I hope your pregnancy test comes out whichever what you are hoping but this is one less thing to worry about. Now that you know, it's not a really big deal.

Hugs,

Karen

Thanks, I've been researching it all day. I'm at work, probably should've been working, but didn't do too much of that today. I'm feeling a little better about it now. I'm getting the medication tonight and calling my doctor in the morning to see what she has to say about it. Thanks for all the help.
