and the doctor who did it was very nice, and very explanatory. He first said that my uterus was fine, and then my right ovary as well...Then he jumped to my left side, and I nearly jumped off the table, he said he could very well see why I was having so many problems. First of all, the left ovary is full blown endometriosis, and then went on to say that he could spot 3 cyst like formations, and then I could see them when he showed me the screen. I asked him what exactly they were, and he said, my dear they could be cysts, polyps or other masses. The other masses thing makes me nervous, but I will wait until my doc comes back and calls me around the 4th.
Here goes my questions, as if you did not know it...lol.. Is it pretty common to only have one ovary with the endo? or does it usually effect the other after awhile. My thoughts were that it could, but not positively. Obviously this is a total guess on my part. The other thing is what else could those masses be??
Strange because since I was old enough to know what endo was, I always thought I had it, due to the incredibly painful periods, twice passing out, and always vomiting. After my laporopscopy three years ago, I was told I had a lot of thickening of the lining, but not endo. The doctor then scraped it and told me he would not call this endo, just thickening. I guess a lot has changed since, because this Dr today said there was an incredible amount.
Well thanks for listening, and answering my other posts. I am going to read all I can on endo, and this will certainly make my decision easier once I understand more about it. My mom thinks I should have the hysterectomy and finalize ALL in one shot, although I have heard it does not always cure endo. She bases this on the fact that she, my aunts(2), and my grandmother all had uterine cancer, and I think she worries about obvious genetics here.
Take care, 4 more days, leaving Sunday now.

Oh Sherrie!
I am so sorry you have been suffering with pain and bleeding.
But, I can not stress this enough.....they CAN NOT see Endometriosis on an ultrasound. The ONLY way to be diagnosed with endo is by laparoscopy. I dont know why the ultrasound doctor said you had it, when there is no way he could possibly know that. I am sorry, but you will find as you do more research that he doesnt know what is talking about.
If the cysts are not growing, then more than likely they wont touch them, or go with a hormone treatment program to try and reduce the size of them. It is not a normal procedure to have a hysto because of cysts, or even low grade endo. Quite often they even let them go and see if they burst by themselves. If the size is larger than normal, then they try to drain them first, or cut them out depending on where they are.
You may have had endo when you had your first lap, but it is not always visible at first, specially if the deposits are small or hidden or you doctor wasnt an endo specialist. Endo is a speciality disease and needs to be treated by the correct doctor. Please remember this when asking for a referal to a gynie, ask for an endo specialist. When endo is active it can grow at a very fast rate or a really slow rate, depending on your individual pattern. This pattern can change as you get older too. You only need a small amount to be in excrutiating pain. This can be quarterised when they do your lap.
There is no cure for endo. If you have it and then decide to have a hyster, you may still get reoccurances at a later date. It can affect just one ovary and not the other, or it can affect both.....sometimes not at all.
I hope I have helped you as much as I can. I dont know what the masses would be except for fibroids or a burst cyst with fluid moving freely around your ovary.
Hugs Suziedee
Thank You both for your input. It helps a lot, as I am new to this endo thing.
