Dysplasia and Leep

I had my third colposcopy in a three year period along with a biopsy. I went through cryosurgery late 2001 and was able to have 3 normal paps afterwards. My fourth pap which I was suppose to have to know whether the dysplasia was gone came back abnormal. Now I'm told if my biopsy shows mid-grade or higher dysplasia I will have a Leep procedure. I haven't been sexually active because I feel this contributed to my dysplasia initially. I was married for 8 yrs and for the entire union I always had some kind of UTI, vaginal infection, bladder infection and cervicitis. Conditions I never experienced before I married. I haven't had any female problems since my separation and divorce so I attribute my present condition to my former husband. Now to the question. Has anyone had the Leep procedure done? It sounds painful. The colpo/biopsy I had today was the worse. I never had any discomfort from the previous ones but today I felt violated because the biopsy part really hurt so I don't want to go through another painful process and I really don't want to get cancer or lose the ability to have children. I thank anyone that reads this and responds.

The cause of cervical dysplasia cases is 99.8% of the time the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a persistant infection that stays in your body. It causes cells to grow abnormally and causes cervical dysplasia. Even after a first round of treatment (your cyrotherapy), the virus can always reactivate and cause more abnormal cells... like you are going through now.
If you have not heard of HPV before, that is not surprising... some doctors still do not tell their patients that the reason for their cervical abnormalities
Hope this helped you some!
I'm new here. I just got my PAP results last night, and my doctor says that I have abnormal cells, and that I also have the HPV16 virus. She said that its quite common for people to have some sort of HPV, but that HPV16 increases my chances of having cervical cancer (although she also said they did not find any cancerous cells in my PAP). She referred me to a gyno, and said that I should get checked out soon.
I'll make the appt with the gynolcologist, but until then I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about HPV16? I guess it's not the same variety as the genital warts virus that is most common? Any information here would be helpful. Thanks.
The STD board has a section devoted just to HPV.
