What can i do about this?

Hello,

I have an unusual problem. I've searched through all of the posts to date and haven't found a similar problem, except maybe vulvadynia, which I'm not really certain is the same thing as what's going on with me.

My problem is that the skin on my labia majora and the entire area around my clitoris (between the labia majora and the vulva and also on the actual clitoris) is peeling off. This started during my period two months ago. I used sanitary pads, which seemed to irritate me more than normal, and so I thought this might be some type of allergic reaction. Only it has continued on ever since then.

I've never experienced this before and I am really concerned. Nothing appears to be inflamed, nor do I have any painful urination or anything else. Once in a while I may have light itching.

If it helps any, I'm 21 y/o and have 2 children, ages 5 and 15 mos. I have had an abnormal pap recently, and a colposcopy for a low-grade lesion but the doctor told me it was nothing to worry about immediately.

I would really appreciate any information you guys have.

Thanks!!!

My first thought was possibly vulvar dysplasia... then when you write you have had an abnormal pap smear and cervical lesions, it makes me think, yes, this could be possible.

Abnormal paps and cervical lesions are usually caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV can also cause abnormalities of the vaginal walls and vulvar (exterior) regions of the genitals.

Don't be suprised if your doctor never told you about a possible HPV infection... many doctors still do not tell patients about it or test them for it... because pretty much everyone has it (most people just don't see symptoms) and the infection itself is not treatable. All they (doctors) can do is treat and watch the abnormalities (lesions)... so they don't bother bringing up the virus.

If I were you, I would give your doctor a call an ask if they ran an HPV test on your abnormal cells. Then I would tell them about the vulvar peeling you are seeing.

Good luck!
