Need help Genital Warts

I have got a huge problem. I just found out that I have Genital Warts. I have been with my husband for 5 years AND HAVE NEVER BEEN UNFAITHFUL!!!! My doctor had asked if I or my husband had been unfaithful I stated that I had not been. I told my husband what I had found out completely by surprise and unexpected to hear this news. I had asked him point blank if he had ever been unfaithful, he said no he has not. So my question is that how can this happen after being with him for 5 years always geting yearly check-ups and never anything showing any signs or anything wrong??? I have read some research on this which states that in most cases you can catch it within 3 months but in some it may take 2 years, am I being stupid, am I fooling myself, or can this really happen?? Do I believe him that he has been faithful to me all this time?? Please help me!!!!

I don't have the strain that causes warts, I have the type that causes abnormal cervical changes, and could lead to cancer. I had normal paps since going to the gyno since I was 19. I have been with BF for almost 7 years, and, while it is always possible that he cheated, I don't think it is likely.
Do some research on this and you will see that there are actually women who have never had a problem, and after 15 - 20 years of marriage, all of a sudden get this.
A common belief is that the virus lays dormant in your system, with your immune system fighting it off. If you have been sick, under a lot of stress, or had any surgery, etc... it could then "show up". Your immune system is compromised and can no longer hold it at bay. Luckily there are treatments that, while not curing it, will remove the warts and they may not ever come back. You need to build up your immune system to fight it.
One more note, this is probably the most common STD out there. Statistics say that probably 80% of the sexually active population has some form of genital HPV. It is not the end of the world, and may actually make you take a new outlook on life. It prompted me to loose weight and start exercising. Take care!

first off, please don't panic!
Yes, the above posters are right! You can carry HPV for months, years, or forever before it ever causes symptoms. You can't even be accurately tested for the virus UNTIL symptoms (warts or abnormal pap smear) develops.
There is no way to know which one of you, you or your husband, had the virus first... but you are both most likely carrying it. Your immune system just happened to weaken and the virus was able to activate and warts popped up.
Good luck with treating the warts and you will get through this... it's more common than you know.
