Help With a GYN Prescription

My GYN just told me (for the third time, now) she thinks my frequent vaginitis, vulvitis, UTI, and yeast infection problems are being caused by my thong underwear, which is the only kind I wear and they ARE cotton. She wants me to wear only skirts with no underpants at all for the next TWO WEEKS and then go back for another consultation. She went so far as to show me she wears only a chemise under her dress because it is much more healthy than panties but still shields her skirt while seated! I didn't think to ask her, but I don't even know where you can buy a chemise! I have never gone without some sort of panty before, although I know some women do that, and I am just a little nervous about what others might think in a locker room or whatever, or how a boyfriend might react. If anyone here has experience with going without, or knows where you can buy a chemise or, I suppose, some sort of a short old-fashioned slip, I would really like some help.

Thanks,

Janet

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I asked this same question on another board and learned where to buy a chemise, and I did so I can start tomorrow. I have a dress picked out to wear with it that I think will work out all right. Wish me luck! I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again,

I have to say this was an interesting day! I certainly felt physically much more comfortable wearing just the chemise under my skirt than I ever felt with a thong, or even a panty of any kind, although I did make several visits to the ladies room just to check on (mostly imagined) feelings of “wetness.” Of course, I was very conscious at first of the need to be extra careful about an accidental exposure, but was feeling much more confident by the end of the day. I went out shopping at lunch break and did find a lovely bra-top chemise I can’t wait to wear tomorrow. It was very pricey, however, so at this point I am committed to this! The saleswoman tried to sell me the matching thong panty – I hope I didn’t shock her by refusing!

In answer to your questions, I have been on the pill since I was 16 but had no problems like these until I started wearing thongs all the time. I do use condoms, but my GYN is quite sure these are not the cause of my problems, either. Fortunately, I am able to wear skirts if I wish nearly every day of the year.

Thanks again, for your concern and advice.

Well, I visited my GYN again today. Three weeks ago I was quite skeptical when she insisted my frequent problems with vulvitis, yeast infections, excessive discharge, etc. were caused by my cotton thong underwear, but it turns out she was absolutely right. I followed her advice and discovered that within just a week or so I could actually feel very comfortable wearing skirts, even short skirts, with just a chemise and no underpants at all, and all my unpleasant symptoms have gone away, along with any panty lines. (For those who may be thinking yechhh, I can also assure you my everyday discharge has become so slight I am usually barely conscious of it.) My GYN tells me she has persuaded many of her patients to give up underpants altogether for better health, even though it means getting used to wearing skirts.

Thank you to those who responded to my original question. You were right about boyfriends - I've found guys (three, so far)absolutely love the way I dress now - they think it's very sexy! It's so good to be able to have a sex life again I am overdoing it a little, making up for lost time!!
