Vaginal Odour

hi everyone!

I am sure one of you must have wondered at some time in your lives if it's just you being paranoid or it is your vagina that smells bad.

I don't find my case a cronic problem, but can't help but notice that at different times of the month my vagina smells more and less intensively, and i think it also has to do with whether i have sex or not. Could this be?

I had a pap done recently and everything was perfect, i asked my gyno about the odour and she said it was normal to have some kind of smell there but that it wasn't in fact "bad" that it was all in my head, and suggested that maybe it had to do with my eating habits. I have heard that eating garlic makes you smell and taste different down there(i never eat garlic anyway).I was wondering if there are any other foods that would make you prone to the smell... What do you guys think?

Mind me, I am clean, shower everyday and do not use any vaginal soaps, which would actually make it worse, according to the gyno... so i don't know why the smell is so bad.

I asked my boyfriend what he thought of it, and of course, like the perfect gentleman he didn't say anything negative and said it's fine, and tastes fine but i know it doesnt....

what should i do?

thank you so much for the help,

kitty

Hi Kitty:

Ive been plagued with what sounds like the same problem as you and after countless vaginal tests and even ultrasounds everything is apparently normal. Well, I dont consider the smell from my crotch normal!! It sounds like a typical vaginitis due to the fishy smell I have yet when they do tests everything comes back negative. I would surely like to know what is the cause of this smell. It too is causing problems for me in my sexual relations with my husband since I will not allow him anymore to perform oral sex on me. Keep me posted if you find out anymore as to the cause of the odor you are experiencing.

Hi there cinder. In your response to Kitty, I agree that all women even men for that matter, have odors. But by no means should the odor be so strong and offensive that it causes others not to want to sit beside you.

koolkitty,

You need to not worry about it so much!!! YES, it is natural to have an odor. and I'll tell you something about that odor which you think is so horrible: its actually a turn on to most guys!!! As long as you shower everyday (which you do) and especially shower after sex, there's no worry... If every woman that had vaginal odor had something wrong with them.... the EVERY WOMAN would have something wrong with them :)

hey Imjmp!

i know how you must feel.... i have been doing my homework, and so far the alternative way i found to deal with the problem is to use those flavored self-warming liquid/ gel lubricants that are sold at sex shops.... besides masking the odor, they taste good as well- i got a strawberry flavored one that doesn't taste like gum, but rather really good and smells lusty....

they also work great with all the friction, such a miracle... the perfect temporary solution to my problem, it feels nice to finally relax and let him go down again.... but of course im still super self conscious, so i am still looking for reasons behind the smell.

i asked a friend's mom who is a nutritionist, and she confirmed that a reason could be what we eat. she couldn't tell what exactly not to eat, but told me that lots of sex books have good advice on what to eat to improve your taste and smell down there, but not everything works for everyone. i am still not satisfied, i will keep looking!!!

hope you find a good lubricant, try them at the store, taste them and small them before you buy... there are lots of crapy ones that tatste bad on the skin.

good luck, let me know how it goes for you!

hi everyone!

i know it is normal that a woman has a smell down there... thing is, i noticed how my smell intensifies, for example, the day after i have sex, and much worse, when i have an orgasm- and the smells stays for a few days and goes away or changes. or if i don't have sex for some time. or for whatever reason. and it is a strong smell, not so much fishy, but more like ... i don't know how to explain, sometimes like 2 day dirty underwear, or like old cheese(i shower everyday and after sex....... and even my sweat smells neutral), always wear clean pants, clean underwear... i just dont get it.

a girl can tell when something is strange about herself. like, i remember before being sexually active in my teens i didn't experience any of this.

as for now i am learning how to deal with it, accepting the way i smell, given that nothing may be wrong with it and it may be just the way i smell and period. im still looking into the foods and their effect on the smell though.

let me know if you have any advice on that. i heard garlic makes the smell and taste stronger... thats all i've got so far!

thanks, kitty

thanx cinderkitty. It really is a frustrating and discouraging problem which seems to be an issue with several women out there. I really am perplexed that the medical professionel cannot locate or provide the reason for "fishy" smell.
