Patch user bleeding early

I have been on Ortho-Evra since May when I first started birth control. Everything has gone normal...bleeding starts Tues/Wed during the patch free week. My patch free week starts tomorrow so I shouldn't start bleeding until Tuesday or Wednesday. But...I started feeling crampy yesterday the way I usually do the day before I start and tonight, about 30 minutes ago, I notice I'm bleeding lightly and the cramping is getting worse..the same way my period usually starts. But today is Saturday, the patch is still on. So why am I bleeding? I'm 22 years old and in a monogamous relationship if that helps any.

Hmmm, I'm not sure what to tell you.

I was on the patch for 2 weeks before I ripped the damn thing off. After being on the pill for 8 years, I didn't think it would change the way I felt, but besides that it itched like crazy, it also made my heart beat faster. I think there is more hormone in the patch than I was used to since I was on a low hormone birthcontrol pill before. The patch may be wonderful for others (my sister loves it), but it may be causing your body to react differently especially since you were not on BC before. Try not to freak out too much, give it another month and always mark on your calendar when your period starts so you can tell your doctor. Bye. Jeenee

The first month was a little itchy yes, but now being month 8 of it, it doesn't itch nor leave big red itchy bumps when I take it off. That only happened the first month and it's been fine ever since. Same goes for the nausea.

I've always kept track of my cycle since the day I started when I was 11 and have always been pretty regular. I've just been wondering why I started bleeding before being patch free and if it is a period starting early, why is it day 5 without a heavy bleed day? I'm up to light flow now.

Read your drug insert from the pharmacy or look it up online. I believe one of the side effects is a difference in vaginal flow which needs to be reported to your doctor. He/She may say it's normal, but it's worth reporting. Hope everything works out ok. JeeNee.
