Excessive Vaginal Discharge

I am 19 years old, and for the past year or so, I have had an abnormally excessive vaginal discharge. I have never had an abnormal pap. Last spring I was treated for bacterial vaginosis with a suppository, and after that failed with an oral anti-biotic. This did nothing to change the situation either. I went to a different doctor in November and was told that there was no problem. But this extremely excessive discharge persists, and at times causes quite a bit of irritation more or less like a diaper rash. She recommended I take Acidophilus supplements which I am now starting. In addition to this being irritating for me in general, the excessive moisture is quite bothersome and embarrassing during sex. Any advice?

Oh yes, and the last doctor I saw also suggested that the pill could be causing the discharge, which would more or less put me in a damned if you do/damned if you don't situation. Any thoughts?

Welcome Mary!

We've had quite a few posts about this very problem.

Actually, I am quite amazed to report that the Acidophilus seems to have done the trick. In just one day, I seem to have cleared up a problem that I have been facing for nearly a year!!!!

Dear `MaryFelicity':

I have had heavy vaginal discharge, too. I have a bigger headache: DH is addicted to sucking my vulva. Don't know how to stop him?

My gyno is such a freak. She said Acidophilus was for yeast infection, not for treating discharge. She wanted to me to see her the day after tomorrow. She is worried about side effect. She will not get me Acidophilus, without further examination.

Gee! In order not to deal with messy tampon insertion/removal, I decided to settle for pads. For the sake of excessive discharge, I am forced to wear pantyliners, at least 10 days a month---I wanna let my vulva breathe!!! Tired of skin irritation and fish odor!

Thank God! DH wears condom more often, I don't have to take pills, which may complicate my menstrual cycle, any more.

I just want to scream for a second!

Well, you can get Acidophilus over the counter. I have heard that the kind that needs to be refrigerated after opening is best, but that actually isn't what I have. I got the GNC Ultra Acidphilus 350mg. What side effects was she concerned about? I went looking a bit and didn't find any.

Dear "MaryFelicity":

Please read:"http://www.intelihealth.com/IH/ihtIH/WSIHW000/8513/31402/347266.html?d=dmtContent"

Side effect maybe minimal. Yet! Please play safe. Ask your gyno, before taking "Lactobacillus acidophilus".

Happy Holidays!

I am quite certain that this is not a bladder control issue. I know exactly where this moisture is coming from; besides the fact that there is a distinct difference between these two different substances.

Hi maryfelicity,

I recently started experiencing the same problems you were. I went to GNC and bought the Ultra Acidphilus 350mg... Did it really help? and how long did you take it before you started experiencing relief.

Thanks
