Beta Streptococcus Group B

Hello there, my Doctor had recently diagnosed me with having "Beta Streptococcus Group B". This originated back in August 2003 from taking an anti-biotic that could possibly cause yeast infections. I didn't have signs of a yeast infection, but my Doctor said that's what it was regardless (without testing). After several variations of vaginal gel and after numerous tests (4 within 3 months), she finally came up with Beta Streptococcus Group B. What upsets me about this is that she wouldn't treat it (until I pleaded) because it's apparently normal and it's only a problem if I were with child. Since August I have been dealing with massive 'gooey' discharge and an absolute HORRID smell. I have to wear pantyliners everyday, which I shouldn't have to. The smell is starting to interfere with my work, my social life and my personal life. People notice it. I shouldn't have to live like this. After reminding my Doctor of this she prescribed an anti-biotic several times, Amoxicillin, and that is not working, but yet everytime I tell her this I have to go back in for another test to get the same results and have the same debate with my Doctor over treating me. It's not getting better and I'm not satisfied with an answer of "It's natural". It needs to be treated. I cannot live the rest of my life like this. So my question is, is there an effective treatment for this?

Many Thanks

The antibiotic you're on should be working, though it may take awhile. If it really isn't helping, maybe you should seek a second opinion. It doesn't sound like your physician is being incredibly helpful in the situation. So you know, though... if/when you do decide to have children, you are at a higher risk for transmitting Group B strep to your baby. It won't hurt you, but can cause serious problems in newborns. The good news is that prior to delivery you'll be given IV antibiotics to prevent this. Knowing that you carry Group B is something you'll want to keep in mind and notify your doctor of when that time comes. I probably didn't help much, but I wish you the best!

I know exactly what you are going thru. I just recently had a baby and was told that I have group b strep so they had to give me antibiotics during labor. My doctor told me it was normal and lots of women have it and that I shouldn't worry about it. But here recently I've been noticing an odor. I haven't been to the dr yet but I'm planning to go soon.

I am not pregnant and I was having symptoms of a yeast infection. I was given yeast meds. The doctor called a few days later and said that I did not have yeast. It was Group B strep. I was given an antibiodic. I think it was called Cipro. It worked pretty good. Except now, I am experiencing more symtoms. I went back and they said that the Group B strep is still there and now I have MRSA. You guys may have this also. It is a resistant bacteria. I am scheduled to see a Specialist tomorrow morning.
