I went off birth control in November. That month I had my period from November 14th until the 19th.
On December 18th to be exact I had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend of two years. The condom broke, and about two days after the incident I started spotting. It was really dark and then at times it would be very light . Only a few times did it get to the red tone. It maintains to be brown/pink. I would wear a pad and for hours it would be clean -- making me think the spotting has came to an end, but the next trip I make to the bathroom it appears. This process made me very irritated because in my mind I would be thinking… Are you going to have a period and bleed? Or will the spotting stop altogether?
I took a pregnancy test on December 30th & was seen by a gynecologist. I told her my situation, and to be honest she wasn't any help. She basically rushed me along. When she did the examination she did say the cervix looked good & that I did have mucus, and to give it some time to see if my period comes.
The pregnancy test came out negative, however she did say it hasn't been two weeks & that's about how long it's needed for a pregnancy test to be accurate. She advised to re-take the test.
I am not really worried about pregnancy, I think that is the last thing that could be causing this, however I would like to get to the bottom of this or at least get some input on this situation.
I been spotting since December 20th and it is now the 4th of January. Nothing has progressed... no period... just spotting! To me this doesn't seem normal... to spot for such a long period of time. Please advise!!
Thanx =]

I don't know the answers to your problems....most likely its just cause you came off the pill and it may just take awhile for your hormones to work themselves out. But I would also recheck on the pregnancy test because some women do spot when they become pregnant. If you're not pregnant but continue spotting, I would give it a couple of months before getting too concerned. Your body needs time to adjust after going off the pill.
I DO know exactly how you feel, though, especially about getting brushed off by your dr. I spotted a brown discharge for over a year...probably closer to a year and a half. I went to an OB-GYN repeatedly, never got answers and contiually got the brush off too. So I can totally sympathize! I did eventually get answers and was sent to an endocrinologist because I had a hormonal disorder that was causing it.
Most likely for you, it is from stopping the pill, and given time will work itself out. If it continues after a month or two, then I would go to the dr and demand some blood work because your hormones could be out of whack! Or just go straight to an endocrinologist.
