Bacterial Vaginosis

I have a problem in that I keep getting bacterial vaginosis. I have been seeing a general practicioner for it (insurance reasons) and she keeps prescribing Metro. All too soon, it is back. This has been happening for a couple of years, quite regularly, every few months.

Now, I have been getting the familiar discharge (a bit stronger though) and a frequent urge to urinate, though I don't have to void. Is this common in b.v infections?

I have been looking for a gynecologist, as I think perhaps the g.p. isn't all that skilled with this, but I cannot get a new patient appointment for a few months.

Is the urination feeling usual for this? I do know I do not have a bladder infection as each time she also gives me the test for that, and there is no indication of bladder infection.

Hi there!

Are you on the pill by any chance?

Thanks. I read the post through, and though I do not take the pill or wear thongs...I wonder if the undies (cotton bikini) or condoms (latex) may be contributing factors. I wouldn't think of forgoing the condoms, but maybe a different brand...I would be afraid of not wearing undies (due to the discharge and all that). Now I have somewhere to start!

I did a search on the net for info on b.v. and am puzzled....some sites suggest NOt doushing, others say to, but with some herbal something or another...ugh. I guess I will be learning a lot about this.

Thanks again :)

I know this is very late, but I was searching through boards looking for help with your exact same problem. Constant BV infections and I use metrogel and soon enough its back! Did you ever find a solution? Some sites say to have your partner treated and some say it makes no difference! So confused. Also about that herbal douche that is supposed to help and cream you can get OTC to restore ph balance or something. Gosh! But I do take acidophillus (sp?), to introduce more beneficial bacteria to my body, but I still get them, and I know this because the embarassing smell will be on my boyfriend first. And the urge to urinate is probably a urinary tract infection - that's why I got BV in the first place, from taking so many antibiotics for those that it threw my body off and now I can't get rid of these new BV infections instead...ugh!
