Hi,

Your symptoms sound as if your thyroid may be out of whack. When I was 28, I'm 40 now, I started trying to have a baby. It would take me a year to get pregnant and then I would miscarry at 8 weeks. This went on for 3 years. Also at that time my face and neck started breaking our horribly. After numerous tests from my gyno to see why I was having such difficulty getting and keeping a pregnancy she referred me to an endocrinologist. The 3 of us met. The endo. zeroed in on the acne. She did a pretty involved blood test and found that certain numbers were way off. I was immediately started on synthroid and 2 weeks later I was pregnant! The acne went away and I had a text book pregnancy. Baby 2 came along without a problem as well. I have since switched to armour thyroid because it is natural and I started feeling lousy again on the synthroid. So, what I'm trying to say is make an appointment with an endocrinologist asap. Explain your symptoms, whether it's the infertility, acne, or you just don't feel right. You are most likely hyprothyroid. Check out info. on the web. You want to find a doctor who will treat your symptoms, not the TSH level. You can have a "normal" TSH but still be borderline hypothyroid. Most people don't feel good unless their TSH is between 1 and 2. Once a year I have mine checked now and sooner if I start to feel lethargic, etc. Usually my TSH number has gone up just a bit and that's all it takes. Good luck.

I have to agree about seeing an endocrinologist. There are many hormone disorders besides thyroid that can cause infertility and acne. PCOS and Luteal Phase Disfunction are common causes. I have a pituitary tumor that releases the hormone prolactin, which causes irregular periods, infertility, recurring pregnancy loss, as well as acne. If you've been trying to conceive for two years, then you officially fall under the medical definition of infertile....that just means you've been trying unsuccessfully for over a year....it doesn't mean you can not have children in the future....but usually indicates that something is wrong and you may need help getting pregnant. If your current dr is blowing you off, then find another one. I had problems for almost 20 years, from irregular periods, once even going a year and a half without one, to spotting non-stop for a year and a half, and had dr after dr blow me off. It wasn't until I saw a skilled endocrinologist that I got an accurate diagnosis and treatment, which cleared up all of my symptoms. If you've been trying to conceive for two years, you definitely have the right to insist on a referral to a specialist...either a fertility specialist or an endocrinologist. Either would probably be able to help you. Best of luck to you! I hope you feel better soon and soon find yourself with another baby on the way!
