signs of pregnancy?

Today I should have started a new birth control pack, Yaz. My college pharmacy is not open today, so I will get it tomorrow. However, I have not had my period. I've never missed one. I usually start late but never after a new pack has or is supposed to start. I should have had it starting Friday.
I am having cramps, headaches and moodiness, but no bleeding. I thought I had started yesterday so I put a tampon in; nothing except a brown (for lack of a better word) residue. No smell or itch.
My question is this: Because I am having cramps, does this mean that I will in fact have a period? Could I be pregnant even though I have cramps? I know a missed period is a red flag, but what about the cramps and other signs of having my period?
Thanks, Sarah

I don't know anything about that particular birth control but would think that if you had sex since your last period then you should get a test and double check to make sure you're not pregnant.

Thank you. I have started my new pak of yaz, did so on Monday. I talked the pharmacist on campus, and said take a test (which was negative, but I'd only been on day 3 of missed period) and then wait a week and take another.
It's been 6 days and I'm still having light cramping, no period or discharge. I've been on yaz for at least 2 years. No lifestyle changes, although I am stressed, but I'm always stressed.
The last time I was sexually active was early January and only a few times. No condom but I had just had my period a few days before on time and had started a new pak of the Yaz. I was still in that first row of active pills. I have not been active since that time in January.
Like my bf said, that was a while ago we had sex...i just had a period, and so this was the next one which didn't come. Since it was so long ago, am I overly worried? I know "there's always that chance". I just don't know enough about how my body works..which is sad. Anything you'd recommend I read? I'd like to know more how this works especially with birth control involved.

It's been 6 days, no period, but I am STILL experiencing light cramping on each side. It's not really bothering me like normal menstrual cramps, but it is starting to worry me. There is no other "signs" of anything, just these cramps. They are constant light pressure..almost like someone is lightly pushing on my uterus.
Should I go to my student health center for this?? 6 days is a long time for this, I think.
I am taking a second pregnancy test Monday morning..for peace of mind.
