I know this may get a little too in detail for some people's liking but that is why I am warning you ahead of time.

I just finished my period about 2 days ago. Immediately following it I started to notice a burning/sore sensation in my vaginal opening (as if I had sex for a long period of time..which I didn't). This subsided a little and about a day later I started to see a lot of discharge (mostly normal yellowish colour) and then I got this unstoppable itch at the opening of my vagina and around my clitoris. Now there is even more discharge (i had to change my panties half way through last night) and it has some darker colour in it. Not quite the colour of blood...more like a brownish or rusty colour. I am still very itchy and sort of burning and the lips of my vagina are quite dry at the top where they meet and it has even caused sort of a cut where they meet (like it cracked or something). I've never had a yeast infection or any other problem in my nether regions so any help would be much appreciated. I am 23 years old (if that makes a difference). I would go to my doctor but I am not fond of him and he makes me feel uncomfortable and it is nearly impossible to find another doctor in my area (ive tried).

Hi Robin,

I agree, those do sound like symptoms from a yeast infection (http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/yeast-infection-vaginal.html?pageNum=4#4) but you might have a bacterial infection instead.

It does possibly sound like you could have a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis, both of which can easily be cured with antibiotics. I've had bacterial vaginosis and what your describing, itching at the opening, and around the clitorus,I had, The itching around the clitorus i found out was since your probably scratching (to be blunt) your moving around discharge (which contains the nasty bacteria) and therefore its coming into contact with the outside of your vagina. Basically the bacteria and discharge are not only irritating your inside, but also the outside of your vagina. The dryness, probably caused from the scratching. You may have scratched to the point that you developed a slight scratch. Try using a non-scented, very mild moisturizer for that....only on the outside of course. I found that helped with redness and dryness.

p.s: I developed a cut...it stung so much, especially when I showered and got soap around there, and ironically enough, it was in the same spot yours is, kind of right where the labia starts at the end of the clitorus.Sorry if thats T.M.I. But up until now I thought I was the only person thats experienced that. It's like hearing my own experience all over again, lol

It sounds like what you have definitely could be yeast, which is caused by an overgrowth of the bacteria Candida. However, I am not a doctor, and if you feel uncomfortable with your doctor you should switch primary care physicians and get a professional diagnoses asap.

Sincerely,
