I have a super heavy period

Hi, I am a 27 year old married stay at home mom of 3 (aged, 4, 3, and 15 months).  I have ALWAYS had really heavy periods.  As a teenager (before kids) I would practically be knocked out because of my period, I would be faint and have cramps that would kill a horse and it was awful, I would miss work or school on that first day.  My periods have always been pretty regular though.

After kids, the cramps became much much less.  But it is still very heavy, even MORE heavy.

After my last son was born my doctor commented at my 6 week checkup that I really have a period (in referance to how heavy it was).

I am on a birth control pill (one that is supposed to help), called Portia (it is a generic).  I do not want to mess with it because I got pregnant on a different pill before and the pill I tried before this one cause depression problems.

In August I had a +hpt and in September I had to have emergency sugrey for an ectopic pregnancy (not sure if this is relevent info, like I said, I have 3 kids besides).

I would say it lasts 5+ days and is really heavy for the first 3 to 4 of them.  I go through a pad every 2 hours at least (during the day) and also have clots and gush when I get up.

I think I covered everything, ask questions if you need to.  What could be my problem?

Hi Christy,

I have also had an ectopic pregnancy and my menstruation is much like you describe.

If you have always had heavy periods, that bears looking into.
