I went in on Wednesday to have a 5cm cyst removed from my right ovary. I had found a dr who specialized in laparoscopic surgery for women and she said I was a good candidate.
So Tuesday I was on an all liquid diet until midnight and then nothing else to eat or drink. Wednesday they told me to be at the hospital 3 hrs in advance. We got there and got checked in. There was a cancellation that morning so they took me back an hour early. Prior to going back the dr explained that she planned to drain and remove the cyst and remove any endometrial scar tissue she finds b/c I do have endometriosis. Surgery should be less than an hour. I sign consent forms for this and they take me back.
About 30 min after they take me back my fiance gets paged that the dr needed to speak with him. She tells him that they removed the cyst and found that my appendix was adhered to my fallopian tube. The appendix was completely covered in endometrial tissue and the fallopian tube was wrapped around it. It was causing me to have a chronic case of appendicitis. So they needed him to sign a consent for to do an appendectomy. But since we're no married yet he legally couldn't make that call so they had to get hospital admin involved and then had to find a general surgeon b/c my gyno can't perform that surgery.
I ended up being in surgery for just over 2 hrs but they were able to save my ovary and fallopian tube. I'll find out next week what type of cyst it was that they removed.
Needless to say I was very confused when I was waking up in the recovery room and I was being told that they removed my appendix. It took a while for me to fully understand what had happened but the dr is pretty sure that the appendix was the cause of all of my pain for the past few months.
I was given the choice to either continue the liquid diet for another 24 hrs or spend the night in the hospital. I did the liquid diet and have since graduated to soft foods.
Thankfully it's all done and over. I'm home recovering and hoping I'll feel like myself again soon :)

Wow!
