Strep B-can you still have a baby?

HI,

I was diagnosed with strep b and had 2 rounds of penicillin and didn't get rid of it. I went to a specialist and found out I also had cervix erosion on top of strep b. The specialist recommended that I have a cryocautery done. I didn't have strep b with my first child and now that I somehow got it after having my son, i was wondering if I can have a healthy baby with the strep b and cervix erosion. I know they treat you for strep b before the baby comes, but is it safe? will the baby be normal? will cervix erosion affect the baby? Thank you!

Thank you so much for your response! I know that you have answered questions from me in the past regarding this issue and you have been much helpful..more than my own doctor. Thank you again!

Thank you again! I guess I am nervous about having another child because I read articles where even though they administer antibiotics during labor, the baby might still be affected. I don't know what the percentage of women who had strep b and had babies are healthy and the percentage who are not. Especially since I have such crummy insurance, I am just nervous about it. It is such a weird thing. I don't even know how I got it. I know I didn't have it with my son. And it seems that it won't go away. I don't know how many times I've taken penicillin and it didn't go away. My doc wants me to take amoxicillin now, but I doubt that will work too.

Your concerns are understandable.

I completely understand your concern over this. I found out I had Strep B in my third trimester before my daughter was born. My water broke the night before I went to the doctor the next day but the nurse wouldn't get me in for an emergency check. I should've been in the hospital immediately being induced. I went in the next day for my doctors appointment and they immediately had me go to the hospital. When they administered the antibiotics to me for the group b strep, they're supposed to do it a certain time before the baby is born. My daughter came much quicker than they expected and they pumped the antibiotics into me as she was being born. I was very worried with all those things that happened, that she'd be ill, but she was okay. :) Not to give you false hope as far as it all goes, but you can definitely have a healthy baby despite Group B strep. I also felt lucky to have a doctor who knew what to do.
