Questions about copper IUD

Hello to all;

I have had the copper IUD for 6 months now and the heavy periods have been non-stop.  I use 2 overnight pads and to avoid the embarassment of "leakage"  I have to use tampons too.  I have told my doctor this but they say its normal.  I have anemia now.  My periods last 7-8 days. I have to change my pads at least every hour.  How long does it take for my period to normalize?

My period went away 2 weeks ago and I have not been able to feel the string.  I asked my partner to help me and he said that he can not feel it either.  I have been starting to get sharp pains almost as if something was cutting me inside and the pain shoots down my right leg. I was told I have a fibroid the size of a golf ball.  Could it be the IUD causing this or the fibroid?

Hi annettedlc3 and welcome to the board.

With a copper IUD it isn't uncommon for it to take about 6 months for your body to regulate.

I just wanted to say that it's quite possible that it's a combination of both the copper IUD and the fibroid causing your heavy periods, so if you considered getting the IUD removed, it may not necessarily help much.
