Bacterial Vaginosis

I think I have bacterial vaginosis...I've had it once before. That was like 2-3 months ago. I'm in a monogamous relationship with my bf of a year. My doctor told me that Bacterial vaginosis is common and that it's not an STD and that unfortunately no one really knows why or how people get this except that it has to do with the bacteria level in the vagina etc...

It seems like I have been to the doctor so many times in the past like 8 months. I had a UTI, then a Kidney infection, then I thought I had a yeast infection because I had a discharge and was kinda itchy and uncomfortable, but it was bacterial vaginosis....and now I have it again! (at least I think...I have a doc appt on Monday). What sux is that it all is tied to sex. My doc said that women get UTI's more often when they have sex and she said that the bacterial vaginosis is common in those who are sexually active as well. I'm a clean person. I go to the restroom after and sometimes before sex (my doc mentioned that this helps prevent UTI's) I shower daily, I don't use douches, I even carry feminine wipes with me in my purse to be more clean and I use them after I have sex too to clean up if I'm at my bf's house and can't shower or anything.

Ladies have you ever dealt with these little nuisances in your life and fairly close together in time? My doctor mentioned if I get UTI's or even the bacterial vaginosis often with in a certain amount of time that I should maybe take a prescription medication to help reduce it. Any one out there do anything or take any prescription meds to prevent these things?

Being a woman can be such a PAIN sometimes geeez! Thanks to all who reply!

I hope somebody will have a good answer for this. I was diagnosed with this a couple of years ago. I definitely think it's tied to sex. I get different symptoms than the usual symptoms though. I get sharp pains in the side of my abdomen. It hasn't been too bad until recently, so I headed back to the doctor just this past week and I'll see if the pains are still indicative of bacterial vaginosis. It is frustrating to feel you're never quite getting rid of it or it's coming back constantly. It's sure be nice if there was something that could keep it at bay.

I've had bacterial vaginosis twice, last year, everything your doctor told you is absolutley correct. My doctor told me the exact same things. Not only is it more common in women who are sexually active, but some women are just more prone to getting them. I have been with my boyfriend for about 3 yrs now so generally I have sex on a regular basis, and its only since we've been together that I've

I feel your pain... For the past 3 months I've had BV and I can't get rid of it. And I haven't had sex in a year! I'm getting freaked out because I've been reading that it can be chronic. What's more frustrating is that I've been given 2 things for it: Clindesse insert and Metrinazole (sp) pills (which are awful). I think the pills made it go away, but it feels like it's back. My period just ended and I'm wondering if tampons are breeding bacteria.

Anyway, one thing I read is that you should use condoms when you have sex to prevent BV. Also, you said you use feminine wipes - that sounds like something to avoid; it's the same idea as a douche.

Good luck and let me know if you find a miracle cure :)

Hi peachykeen, I just noticed your comment about the tampons and you may want to try a different brand or use non-scented (if you aren't already).

Recurrent BV is fairly common.

I'm very excited to help, well at least I believe I can because I can relate and truly empathize. I had BV for well over a year. I tried the apple cider vinegar, folic acid, yogurt etc. etc.
