I'm exhausted now...
I don't know what happened to my last post, but I'll fill ya'll in on what's goin on. Almost 4 days ago, I went to a free clinic for a pap smear and some bc pills because I've had an ovarian cyst (according to an ultrasound tech in january) in my right ovary with irregular periods for the last 3-4 months. When she began palpating the right ovary, she said she felt a mass ("probably the cyst") and it had grown bigger, to about 3 x 5 cm. in diameter. She didn't want to put me on birth control at that time, because of clotting issues in my family history and the fact that I smoke. She also said because of my low BP and tachycardia, she was worried about an ovarian torsion. So she sent me to the ER, with a note explaining what was going on. I waited 4 hours before being seen by a doctor, and another 4 getting poked and prodded for blood tests and a CT with oral and IV contrast, all the while feeling very nauseated and in pain, and he had said before the tests that he would give me some medicine for the pain and nausea, but none ever came. I finally asked them if I could take some oral Toradol for the pain that I had in my purse, and they wouldn't let me. So I never got anything. I didn't have anything to eat or drink the entire time I was there, except contrast fluid. At almost midnight, the doctor finally came back and said that there were multiple cysts in both ovaries and that I should F/U with an OB-Gyn, and then gave me the name of a GI specialist. (???)
So, I made the appt with the GI specialist, I've tried to go back to the free clinic to ask them what I should do about this, they told me that they can't help me with this condition, only routine paps and bc. I started bleeding the day after the hospital, but stopped after about 6 hours. Ever since, I've just been soooo nauseated, I haven't been on my computer, have been either sleeping or having diarrhea, and since he only sent me home with a script for 12 lortab, I finally got a hold of my old family practitioner yesterday who was willing to write a script for 15 more of those and some phenergan for the nausea. She also gave me the name of a good Gyn, although he charges full-price, and I don't have insurance. My grandparents are being so nice about it, though. They said they'd even help me pay for the appt. My grandmother ("Momma") let me stay at her house for a few days and watched my 4 year old for me, and said she was seriously thinking about calling an ambulance a few times because I was doing so bad. She made sure I kept taking in fluids and took my medicine until now. I don't even REMEMBER any of it, it was so bad. The meds are helping a lot, but I'm wondering what exactly happened here? I think maybe the big one ruptured, and is now gone, but the ones in my left ovary remain, and that's why I'm still not getting my period. I'm just angry that people without insurance get treated worse than animals sometimes. I mean, what if I had bled out internally or something? They didn't have me on a monitor and refused to give me fluids, pain medicine, or even anything for the nausea. That's just sick. I felt worse when I left the hospital than I did going in. Should I write a letter to the hospital's administrator? Would it even help?

Sociostudent I am sorry that you got that kind of runaround at the hospital.
