Question about menstration pattern

Because my husband and I are going to start trying to conceive our first child within the next year, I began charting my periods last October. Well, I sat down to enter the latest data and noticed a weird pattern:

My periods are around 21-23 days one month, then 38-40 the next. This has been repeating since October. Has anyone ever heard of this, or know why it's doing this?

Right now, I don't have health insurance, so I don't want to get checked up, find out I have something, and then not be able to get it treated when I get health insurance (hopefully next month) because it's a "pre-existing condition." My mother does have a history of ovarian cysts, but I have never had one and seriously doubt I do now. I am overweight, but have always been overweight.

Welcome to the board Tasha.

Considering it is a regular pattern, I am wondering if you are not ovulating every month?

Thank you for responding! I've been trying like mad to find some sort of information on the internet. I was planning on temping this cycle to see if I can track my ovulation - the first thing that came to my mind was I must not be ovulating every cycle. Is it possible for that to be natural?

The day I get insurance, I'll be at the doctor getting an ultrasound done to see if my ovaries have any cysts. My mother just had her last ovary removed (one taken at 16, one taken several months ago,) to cysts.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Have you been evaluated for PCOS (polycystic ovarian disorder)? You might want to check out:
