Big change in cycle symptoms?

I feel like I've got a stranger's body lately, wondering if anyone has insight into what this is (since I've got another week until my GYN can fit me in).
I historically have had very mild menstrual symtpoms (slight cramps & fluid retention), usually in the few days immediately before my period. Since I went off hormonal birth control (I was only on it for about 1 1/2 years) a few months ago, I've started getting persistent symptoms starting at about halfway through my cycle that persist until my period. These include cramps, fluid retention, serious boob expansion, occasional nausea and intense mood swings. The boob thing was so much like when I was pg in 2005 that I ran out and got a test (BFN). I'm also getting BP spikes before my period.
Is this just a shift as I get closer to perimenopause (I'm 38)? Can I safely treat the symptoms if I'm going to TTC?
Gwen

Sounds like PMS/PMDD and/or perimenopause. I have PMDD and am in peri and have the same symptoms as you. For women who have PMS/Peri a worsening of symptoms happens when peri starts. The BCP will have treated either as it shuts down ovulation and the hormonal ups and downs so there are fewer to no symptoms.
It is usually possible to take Prozac (Sarafem), which is also a tx for both, while TTCing, but you should check with your OB/GYN to see if it is a possibility and what other alternatives exist.
Hi Gwen and welcome to the board.
Because you noticed these changes since a recent stop in BCP, I am guessing it has to do with that.
