Something fishy is going on with me....

Hello ladies,
I have a question and am a little embarrassed to ask my RL friends, so I thought I might post it here. I am married and in a monogamous relationship. I am generally healthy and so is my husband. I recently got a pap smear and some other test and everything came out perfect. I am a little concerned about something that has been going on with me though.
Ever since giving birth to my daughter 2.5 years ago, I have been having a vaginal problem. Every time I eat seafood, whether it be fish, shrimp, or lobster,I have noticed the next day, I expel a strong "fishy" or seafood-y smell from down there with some clear discharge. It gets so bad, that even a coworker who is in the same office as me asked me if I had brought seafood for lunch!!! (And she was a few feet away from me!!!!)Of course I was really embarrassed and wanted the earth to open a large hole under my feet and pull me in!!! Ever since that day, I try my best to avoid seafood, even though its my favorite food. Once in a while, I forget and indulge, only to feel utterly embarrassed the next day. And its inevitable for me to smell the next day!!
I've commented this to my gynecologist and she saw my test and rule out any STD or infections. IDK. Does anyone know what it could be or how it is treated?

I have never heard of seafood doing it before but i have heard that certain food can upest your vaginal bacteria balance and leave you susceptible to certain infections down there.
personally I would book an appt to discuss this and load up on seafood the day before so you can show the doc what you are talking about. it is a bit embrassing but at least when you leave you should have an answer

Hi kate0808 and welcome to the board.
I did some searching and came up with the following tidbits:
There is anecdotal evidence that the scents of certain foods -- including garlic, onions, and asparagus -- crop up in your most private areas. "When foods are broken down, they're absorbed into the bloodstream, and some of their compounds can be secreted through glands all over your body, including your vagina," explains Lisa Masterson, an OB-GYN in Santa Monica, California. Dr. Masterson says that some of her patients claim that eating sweet, acidic fruits such as pineapples and oranges improves their scent south of the border. However, as of yet there aren't any scientific studies to back up the idea that what you eat affects your aroma down below.
