I was wondering if there are other medications other than flagyl (metronidazole) to treat bacterial vaginosis.I've had two within the past year...like Jan 2007 and Nov 2007,the dr said Iam probably just more prone to getting them, like some women are with yeast infections...anyways the first time I took flagyl in January 2007 everything was perfectly fine,I tolerated the medication perfectly, however in November when I took it I was so nauseas I couldn't do anything, the dr said there was another medication she could give me,however it can give u the runs, she said chances are,if Iam reacting to the flagyl I'd react to the other one.So what Iam wondering is there other meds out there to treat BV? I know yeast infection stuff won't work, because its a different infection.Next time I develop BV...because Iam sure there will be a next time, what could I take other than flagyl??

Hi Hollie.

I found this in our resource area:

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) can be treated with oral antibiotics, vaginal creams or vaginal gels prescribed by a physician. Treatment for BV is effective in most cases. If symptoms disappear, follow-up visits are not usually necessary. For recurrent cases, a more powerful antibiotic may be prescribed.

During treatment for BV, women may be advised to refrain from sexual intercourse or ask male partners to use condoms. Routine treatment of male sexual partners is not usually necessary.

There is a flagyl gel and a clindamycin cream or ovules
