Ruptured Cyst?

I need an opinion before I go nuts!  Last night, I suddenly didn't feel good.  My abdomen hurt all over and I felt like I had a lot of pressure, almost the feeling you have before you have diarrhea, however, I wasn't sick.   When I woke up this morning, I still had the bloated feeling and have tenderness on the right side of my abdomen, below my belly button.  It hurts to sit upright, and hurts to try to have a bowel movement.  My first thought was appendicitis, but my husband thought perhaps I had an ovarian cyst or something like that (he's a positive thinker), so I called my GYN.  She did a pelvic exam, and I felt no pain while she was checking my ovaries and uterus (the pain is slightly higher on my abdomen).  While she was just poking around on my abdomen, it seemed to hurt lower, but during the actual pelvic exam, I didn't feel pain.  She ordered a urine analysis, blood pregnancy test and both an ultrasound and a transvaginal ultrasound.  The blood test should return tomorrow, but the preliminary results of the ultrasounds showed fluid in my abdomen, which could be a ruptured cyst.  They won't make a final diagnosis until the blood test comes back.

My questions are:  Wouldn't the doctor know if I was pregnant with the results of an ultrasound?  Also, could I have had an ovarian cyst but have no ovarian pain currently - so could the fluid from the cyst traveled upward in my abdomen and caused pain there?  I figured that an ovarian cyst would make the ovary-area hurt.  Is there anything else that would cause fluid in my abdomen?

I'm currently on oral contraceptives (Apri, generic Desogen) and have not missed any pills/taken them late.  I recently switched pills as well (I've taken 2 full months of Apri) and switched due to irregular bleeding with other pills.  Also, I'm currently on my period if this makes a difference.  I've never had cysts while on birth control pills and I thought that OC's in general were supposed to help prevent such cysts.  Does this mean my pill isn't working?

Sorry for so many questions...I'm just concerned.
