Recurring Yeast Infections. HELP!!!

I was guided here by the health librarian board. So I am posting my question here for help.

Here's my information. I've never had a yeast infection in my life. I've had 2 babies, I am 27 yrs old. My youngest baby is over a yr old.

In the last 3 months I have had 4 yeast infections. I have the fourth right now. My 3rd, I went to the Gynocoligist. And they tested and it is, indeed, a yeast infection, and I do not have diebetes. She believed that it may be the same infection that isn't really going away and the OTC treatments aren't really getting rid of it completely. She gave me a script. That was 2 weeks ago, and it went away. But it's back again. WHY DO I KEEP GETTING THEM???? they are killing me. Where do I look to get help on this?

I spoke to the doc's office again and they want me to come in again to have another culture done to make sure it's still a yeast infection. I know it is, and quite frankly, I don't really want to spend another hundred+ dollars on an office visit and labs, when I know it is a yeast infection and they just did the same culture 2 weeks ago.

I guess what I really want to know is...could it be my IUD? I got that in 6 weeks before my first yeast infection. It is the non-hormonal, copper one. So it isn't hormone related. But could the IUD cause yeast infections? I watched her during the procedure of inserting it and It's in a tube, with similar mechanics as a tampon to push it out. And before she inserted it, she pushed it completely out of the tube and struggled for a minute to put it back in. I'm sure that made it less sanitary. Is this possible causing my infections? There's really no way to know unless I take it out. which I really don't want to do. I have NO other problems with the IUD.

The only other things I can think of is that I have lost over 40 pounds in the last 7ish months. could this weight loss be causing hormonal changes which is causing yeast infections? And if so, then is there nothing I can do?

Any advice of suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Hi Maggie and welcome.

As I was reading your post, I was waiting to see if you mentioned hormonal birth control and up popped the fact that you have an IUD.

Yeah, I've seen information on hormonal BC causing yeast infections as well. But I have the paraguard - it's the non-hormonal IUD, the copper one. My doctor said, "It's not causing them". Personally I am afraid she is wrong. It seems to only make logical sense to me.

But I havn't seen any information that the non-hormonal IUD can cause yeast infections. Have you seen that? I've looked at the 2 links you gave and neither say anything about the my type of IUD causing yeast infections.

Hi Maggie, I haven't seen anything about the non-hormonal ones either.
