longitudinal vaginal septum?

Hello,
I was just at my yearly gynecological exam and my doctor asked if I knew that I had a longitudinal vaginal septum. I did not. I have found a little information online about it but most info i find is about transverse vaginal septums. I was wondering how this "extra wall" is attached at the end towards my cervix. Is it just like a pouch or is it free floating? Maybe it is different for every person?
I'm not worried, just curious. Every now and then when I had sex it was *horribly* painful, so we would stop, try again, and it was fine and good. I always wondered why that was...now i know! Also, I always wondered why I found tampons to be so painful and non-working. I wonder why my last 3 gynecologists never noticed/told me...?!

From the research I've done, it's just a wall that seperates your vagina into two sections, no pouch or anything like that.
