Ablation for Removal of Uterine Polyps

I am 52 years old. I went for a sonohysterogram and endometrial biopsy because I've been having irregular bleeding.....not heavy bleeding, just irregular. I have 3 uterine polyps. My GYN is recommending ablation. I know there are different methods of ablation such as thermal, Novasure, cryoablation and more. My doctor does the thermal method, which she says is the best. The thermal has to be done under general anesthesia, and it is my understanding that some of the others can be done in the doctor's office as opposed to the operating room. It is also my belief that whatever method a doctor uses, they will claim is the best.
I am very confused about having ablation when I don't have heavy bleeding. She also says that because of my age, ablation may help to keep polyps from forming as opposed to just removing them. I am very confused as to what to do.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Many thanks.

Hi there,
I underwent an ablation (I believe Novasure) back in 12/04, due to heavy/problematic periods.

Vida has already given you some great advice and a good link for more information.

Are you saying you think I could just leave these polyps there?
Hi... 2 weeks ago I had cryoablation (freezing), I prefer this method over the other ones I read about because I had it in my dr office, I was awake and I got to go home right away. Start to finish was about an hour. Plus I got vallium and got to go to breakfast with my best friend beforehand.
Hi there!
Ablation is NOT the only way to treat polyps.

Thanks for your reply.
I guess if you had an ablation and didn't have hormonal issues you are one of the lucky ones.
It's highly unfortunate that it advertises that it can help PMS.
Ok, maybe it's the Lupron injections that is doing it.......that would make sense.
