Ablation for Removal of Uterine Polyps

I am 52 years old. I went for a sonohysterogram and endometrial biopsy because I've been having irregular bleeding.....not heavy bleeding, just irregular. I have 3 uterine polyps. My GYN is recommending ablation. I know there are different methods of ablation such as thermal, Novasure, cryoablation and more. My doctor does the thermal method, which she says is the best. The thermal has to be done under general anesthesia, and it is my understanding that some of the others can be done in the doctor's office as opposed to the operating room. It is also my belief that whatever method a doctor uses, they will claim is the best.
I am very confused about having ablation when I don't have heavy bleeding. She also says that because of my age, ablation may help to keep polyps from forming as opposed to just removing them. I am very confused as to what to do.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Many thanks.

Hi there, glad I was able to clear that up for you.
Hi… I’ve been wanting to jump back in here for 2 days now. I had cryoablation (freezing instead of heat which my dr said is safer) (and has 96% satisfaction). My dr. told me in great detail the procedure and what to expect, and she never stated it would change my hormones (better/worse), which is why we chose to try this before hysterectomy.
This is my personal experience. Cryo was done on June 12, I was mid cycle and started a period on June 20. I finished on June 25, and have not had any spotting/bleeding since (for the first time in over a year), nor have I had that nearly constant pms feeling I’ve had because of the constant cycles. I have 2 more months to go to see if it worked, but I’m hopeful. I did not get Lupron injections or any other pre ablation hormones, my dr doesn‘t do that. I can not take oral hormones due to blood clot risk either (I get severe migraines). I don‘t know if I mentioned before that I had several large fibroids which was the other reason I got the ablation.
I wish you luck, I know how confused and scared you must be. I hope you continue to post as you sort it out. If you have more questions please ask. Even gross ones… I‘m pretty open ;) Today is my 13th day without any kind of spotting and I feel like a “normal" woman who is able to have a regular life (right down to regular sex life). You do need permanent birth control in case that was not mentioned by anyone. I already had that done 16 years ago.
Take care…..
Hi....thanks for your reply.
Hi again... I'm finishing up with my vacation today, so I am able to be online all day...
Oh yes, I have heard of the St. Lawrence Seaway.
yes... its way up there...lol
I think its not new... I'm not sure... maybe someone else here knows. I'm hoping it helps me. I really do not want the hysterectomy.
Yes the biopsies were endometrial. Just to rule out other things. Not the funnest things in the world.
Let me know if there are any other questions.
