I have 9 pills left of my FIRST pack... I am bleeding and have been bleeding pretty heavy for 2 weeks. ( I have to use Kotex SUPER PLUS) every couple hours. I am not sexually active.

This is my very first month of any BC what-so-ever... My boobs hurt, my back hurts, I've been eating like crazy etc...

I have not missed any pills .. only took a few late only by 1 to 2 hrs

Is this bleeding normal? I am seriously about to give up taking this..

Hi there,

Breakthrough bleeding is a common side effect of Seasonique in the first 6-12 months of taking it. Since you are bleeding so heavily, I really think you should call your doctor about it, since I don't know if this pill will suit you.

Since you aren't sexually active, what was the reason you went on the pill in the first place? If you were having problems with your cycle, then the Seasonique could be exacerbating the problem.

I got on it because theres a chance I could become sexually active and I also liked the idea of the period every 3 months or whatever

Good on you for being responsible about your sexual health.

If you can put up with breakthrough bleeding for the first year, you might find that Seasonique is ideal for you. But the problem with breakthrough bleeding is one of the biggest reasons women go off it.

What you could try is to build yourself up to three months without periods. You could have a week's break now to try and reset things, and the next time around try and get to two months before having a break, and then eventually go for the three months. It won't affect your protection, but it might work out better for your body.
