bleeding after measuring cervix

Last Thursday I was at the gyno. talking about getting an IUD.  The Gyn. measured my cervix (correct term?) to see how deep I measured-- right at six inches.  She said to expect a bit of bleeding afterwards, which I have, so no big deal, however, it has been five days and I am still bleeding.

At first I thought it was my period coming on, since my last period was 30 days ago.  However, the bleeding is too light to be my period, and I have no cramps or tenderness or any other symptoms that go with your time of the month.  I'm supposed to go back when my period comes on to get the IUD inserted.

Should I still be bleeding after five days after getting measured?

Any other questions that I can answer to clarify anything, I'll be happy to ask.

Hi there,

No, you should not be bleeding this long after having your cervix measured. I'd call your gyn about it and see what he/she says.

If there is any chance that you could have become pregnant in the last month, you might want to do a test. If this is your period, then the fact it is so light could be a sign of pregnancy.
