UTI or cystitis

I have had reoccurring UTI's for the past couple of years. My mom has a bad history of them related to her sex life. I know that this is where mine are stemming from. My hubby works off for 2 weeks out of every month and when he returns home & we have sex, I almost always get a UTI and then it ruins our 2 weeks together plus I am in extreme pain and discomfort.
I went to the E.R. the other month and the Dr said to always urinate after intercourse and I do but it still has not stopped them from plaguing my life!
My mother told me that she takes a pill each time after sex and that prevents her from getting them. I think it starts with a G sounds like maybe "genomiocin"??? Not sure. I am scheduled to see my GYN tomorrow at 2:30 and hopefully get some answers. I was wondering if it could possibly be from me stimulating myself in order to orgasm with my fingers or husbands mouth? I am just at my wits end and want to do whatever it takes to stop them! Even if that means to go to a nunnery! LOL! I can't tell you how much this sucks for our sex life!
Thanks for reading this long post any input or understanding is greatly appreciated. : )

Hi there,
Since you're going to your gyn anyway, I thought I might simply give you a few ideas that might help:
-Make sure the both of you are clean in the genital area prior to foreplay.
-Make sure if your husband gives you oral, that he recently brushed his teeth and tongue, and make sure your hands are clean.
-Drink lots of cranberry juice. Cranberry juice helps to protect the lining of the bladder and urinary tract from bacteria taking hold.
-Drink lots of fluid before sex so you there is heaps of fluid to help flush things out when you go to the bathroom afterwards.
-Taking probiotics might help to boost your immune system to fight off infections as well.
Good luck!
Hi again.
How was your appointment?
The bubble baths could be an issue. The soap and chemicals from the stuff you are putting in the water could be causing too much dryness, or irritation. Once you've had sex and added more irritation to the area, bacteria could easily get in to any microscopic tears.
Perhaps you could look at trying different products and see if any are better than others.
Another thought I had was if you are using any lubricant during sex, the chemicals might not agree with you. There are natural lubricants out there. There is a good one by Sylk, which is made from kiwifruit extract. It's pretty much odorless and tasteless, so could be used during foreplay. It is also good for dryness. A natural lubricant around the entrance to your urethra might help prevent some friction in the early stages of foreplay and during sex.
Also, hormonal birth control can cause just enough vaginal and vulva dryness to make women more prone to UTIs and yeast infections, etc.
I know it is awful when things get in the way of spontaneity. My partner and I have to plan every event around condoms, since I can't take hormonal birth control. We can't just "take" each other when we're in the mood.
Thank you SO much for that great advice! I did go and I did have a UTI, which I already knew but the Dr. gave me a little blue pill called
