If It's Not An Infection, WHAT IS IT?

Hi gals,
I need some help! I have had chronic yeast infections for years but they use to go away and my discharge would return to clear, slippery and normal.
I thought I had a yeast infection for the last 4/5 months and I've been going to the doctor who has been prescribing me anti-yeast and I have also been doing some more natural therapy at home.
Come to find out when I went to the docotor on Friday that I haven't actually had a yeast infection the last 2 times I went to the doctor. It's not BV, it's not yeast, it's not a bladder infection or UTI and we also ruled out STDs.
The problem is, I'm still having a lot of pretty thick, white vaginal discharge that is hindering my ability to get wet and have sex comfortably. I have tried some lubes but it still doesn't feel right. I also have some burning when I go to the bathroom.
Does anyone know what this could be or how to help me return to normal again?
Thanks!
Erin Leigh

Hi Erin Leigh, welcome to the board.
Are you taking birth control at all? Do you use any spermicides, or spermicidal condoms?
If it's not an infection, the white discharge could very well be normal. During different parts of our cycle, our cervical fluid changes colour and consistency. A few things to note though:
Birth control can change the colour and consistency of your natural cervical fluids.
Birth control can cause vaginal dryness, which can lead to discomfort or pain during intercourse, and pain when going to the bathroom (trust me on this one!)
Anything containing spermicides can cause an allergic reaction, or irritation in many women.
If you are using any soap or body wash products in that area, you might be experiencing irritation from it. Also, some women have problems with scented pads and panty liners.
If you can think of anything else that might explain your problem, let me know, and I'll put my thinking cap on.
