Dry skin...down there....

So I have a question to ask anyone who could help. Lately my "hoodie" has been very itchy. Not inside my vagina, everything in that department is fine. No odors, no weird fluids, nothing. Its my outer lips that itch but mostly its right at the top where you"split". It looks very dry, almost like dandruf? but no flakes. I t hink that is whats causing the horrible itching!

So the question is, has anyone ever have this? If so, how do you make the itching go away? I've started using the Eve Shower feminine wash and it has helped a little. I've switched body soaps thinking they couldve caused it, but its not. Are there any Make-at-home treatments I could make? Or things I should buy?

Thanks so much!

p.s. maybe I should mention, I shave down there..if it makes any difference

Hi there, and welcome.

What product do you use when you shave? Do you dry shave, use a shaving cream, hair conditioner? Did you change your shaver recently?

There could be a number of things going on. It could be an allergic reaction to a product you are using, including body wash, it could be the fact that shaving is irritating skin that is already dry/irritated, and making it worse. It could be contact dermatitis from something in your shaver, or the product you use when you are shaving. It could be a problem with soap residue in your underwear, combined with underwear chafing.

I suggest that you stop using all products in that area unless it is hypoallergenic. Do not use the feminine wash, since these can cause changes in pH levels in your vagina, and lead to vaginal infections. Try an aloe vera gel, vitamin E cream, or a moisturiser like Aveeno (with or without the menthol) on the area to try and reduce irritation. Avoid shaving down there every day, if possible, and if you are using a different shaving cream/lotion/shaver, etc, consider switching back. Remember that shaving creams aren't designed for sensitive areas like that. Hair conditioner is something that I've seen recommended quite regularly, if you aren't using that already.

If you notice it getting worse, after making a few changes, or it's not improving, I suggest you see your doctor.

Hey!

I've been using the same brand of razors but I'll switch back to the regular body soap I was using before. I normally just use soap to shave. Hopefully, this will help.

Thanks again!!
