Hi, my name is Becky. I'm pretty new to your board, if not, it's been a long time since I've been here. When I am on my period. I become this exremely moody person. I get angry over little things that I usually blow off. My poor husband is usually the person who has to put up with me. I used to take an antidepressant. Do you think it's worth mentioning to my doctor that maybe I should go back on it?

Hi there,

Is there a chance that you are dealing with not just PMS but rather, PMDD?

Unfortunately, I can not take birth control of any sort. In December 2005, right before Christmas, I developed a blood clot in my lung. I was in ICU for 5 days. I don't have any of the high risk factors like smoking or drinking. My doctors, including the pulmonologist, all agreed that BC pills are what caused this. There is like a 1% chance of this happening. It was very scary.

Thanks for all the information. I will definitely read up on the condition and say something to the doctor.

Thanks again!

Hi there,

Definitely mention it to your doctor, they can start out by doing hormone tests to see if you have any abnormalities in that department. Since you can't take the BCP, this will probably limit your options to some extent, but if antidepressants worked in the past, then you might want to consider going back on them.

Some women have found that their symptoms are managed a little better by taking supplements to help even out their hormones somewhat. You could talk to a naturopath and see if there is anything that could help you there. Vitamin B supplements might help to boost your mood, for instance.
