sorry this might get kinda long........
Iud was removed in April.
After 2 1/2 months of almost continuall spotting/light bleeding, went to see a NP. She said hormones were out of wack and I should take provera to stop the bleeding and have a withdrawal bleed so I could restart a cycle. I didnt start taking the perscription right away and lo and behold bleeding stops for almost 2 weeks, only to start up again heavier then it had been in the past few months. So nurse told me to go ahead and start the provera.
After taking the first pill within 1/2 day bleeding had stopped. (10mg) On those ten days of provera I had very light spotting on 2 of them. I got AF soon after stopping them as expected. The first day was normal flow but the second day was very heavy (soaking pad every 2hrs) Gave dr a call.......she said drink lots of water, take iron pills and call me tomorrow if not improving. Well I was up 5times just during the night to change soaked pads and was changing them every hr. in the morning! Call dr. again. Now she called it dysfunctional uterine bleeding becase of anovulation. She called in another perscrip. for provera, told me to take 3 pills for 2 days, then 2 pills for 2days and then 1 for the rest of the 30 days.
First day of 3 pills bleeding stops in the evening only to restart during the night. Second day of 3 pill took tell evening to get bleeing to stop again only to have it restart during the night again.
Now I am on first day where I am only suppose to take 2 and bleeding is still moderate. Nurse said "good it has slowed down" WTH! Also said if need be I can up the dose back to 3.
Yes it has slowed down to maybe 1/2 of what it was but I still have gushes of blood. Why isnt it stopped? Do I just deal with it for awhile and see what happens? I am just so confused ....why it stopped the spotting so fast but now on triple dose it's not!
Dr. said see me in 6wks.
This ttc is soo not working!

Hi there,
Get a second opinion. If you have any problems like polyps or fibroids, then the Provera will not help one iota. Instead of giving you more hormones, and "assuming" a diagnosis, your doctor should be looking into the cause. A simple ultrasound will tell you if you have a thick uterine lining, polyps, fibroids, or ovarian cysts, for instance.
Provera is normally used to help reset a woman's cycle if she hasn't ovulated, and thus is late getting her period. If you have low estrogen levels (which could very well be the case if you had the Mirena IUD), then giving you Provera will only exacerbate the problem and cause more bleeding. Hormone testing will allow the doctor to find out if there is an imbalance.
Six weeks is too long to wait until you see your NP next. As I said, I think a second opinion is in order, and I think a gyn would be the best place to start.
